Located in China’s geographical center, adjacent to the Yellow River in the north, Mount Song in the west, and vast Huang-Huai Plain in the southeast, Zhengzhou has been famous as “China’s hinterland connecting ten provinces” and the location of world-renowned Shaolin Temple. As the provincial capital of Henan, Zhengzhou serves as the province’s political, economic, cultural, financial, scientific and educational center. With a total area of 7446.2 km² and a built area of 437.6 km², Zhengzhou has jurisdiction over six urban districts, five county-level cities, one county and four economic function districts, namely: Jinshui District, Erqi District, Zhongyuan District, Huiji District, Guancheng Hui District, Shangjie District; Xingyang City, Xinzheng City, Xinmi City, Dengfeng City, Gongyi City; Zhongmu County; Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, Zhengdong New District, National Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhengzhou National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Zhengzhou has a total population of 9.6 million. In 2016, Zhengzhou GDP reached RMB 792 billion, above-scale industrial added value amounted to RMB 317 billion, general public budget revenue of local finance exceeded 100 billion to be 101.12 billion, total retail sales of consumer goods achieved RMB 366 billion, urban per capita disposable income was up to RMB 33,275, farmer per capita disposable income was RMB 20,000, increasing 8.5%, 5.8%, 14.3%, 11%, 7% and 8.5% respectively.
